Sustainable Seattle Staff Meeting Minutes

Date:2/26/10

 

Dream a Sound Future:  

Met with Parks they are on board, partner with Delridge kid fest

Partnering with Olympic Sculpture Park and SAM on Earth Day

We need prizes for the contest, possibly an organization that gives grants to young children

 

STARs:

Has enough speakers now focusing on venues

Leah has set something up with YMCA

Brown Bags on the calendar soon.  Renting rooms at youth centers, ten to fifteen dollars an hour

Dialogue about race starts this Thursday

We are looking for a screen for the projector and laptop

 

PALS:

Charlie emailed about funding, waiting to hear back from that.

Submitting to the mayor’s office for the go ahead

 

K-12 Sustainability Education:

Meeting with Laura to flesh out what the design labs will look like.

Create and developing an educational program that will give us a face in the education and arts community.

Terminology is now called “Green Labs.”

We need clarity on what the terminology means. 

Sustainability education and social and environmental justice

Social justice screen on the website now

Children in the community get no entrepreneurial understanding of business through the green labs bringing in connections between business community and children “Green Biz Kids.”

Ninety minute art projects leading at Seattle Public Schools using rubbish from the breakfast to make the collages. 

Joe Brewer and UW life center interested in what we are doing?

They have large grants that are available for non profit groups.

 

SPARC:

Connor is working full time.  Survey is done and ready to send out.

SCALLOPS in talks about fiscal sponsorships

Amber, Hannah and Connor to meet soon

Looking to collaborate in an area such as Beacon Hill or Georgetown

Annual fundraiser in November

Partnerships with other organizations, Lawyers group

Alex Kujumbala on the blog, may want to partner

We need to cross reference events to see what vendors and venues have been used to make sure we are not burning resources and we want to make sure we give the events that are more important the priorities.

Sustainability Recognition Program & Awards: 

Looking for a lead for the Sustainability Recognition Program and Awards

 

B-Sustainable/Regional Use: 

New lead for B-sustainable

Working closely with Laura

Steering committee to provide guidance for long term plan

Meeting with individuals to bring together a dream team to help guide

Working on identifying funding opportunities

First steering committee for March 31st

Planning to go to Joe Brewer innovation engine

 

B-Sustainable/International Tool:

 

Community Development: 

Laura and Garry Owens and Chas had a meeting

“Garry Owens is an awesome guy.”

Group convened to redefine the scope of the CD team and the outcomes

Initial edit to come soon from Ada and the team

Eddie Hill put on the growing power conference, excited about S2 urban agriculture is his focus

He wants to set up meetings with different departments

LOI meetings and process, mid March

People who are advisors are giving us some advice on how to sculpt the proposal

Department of Neighborhoods Karen is amped about historic preservation

Owen may be able to represent through film projects

Chris is going to be helping us in the accounting area of S2

Fundraising expert Victoria will be meeting with Corey after his elevator pitch

 

PHOCUS: 

Cameron has an upcoming meeting with Phil from Climate Labs

Community collaboration and how groups can go about defining goals

Meeting with Laura to try and identify steering committee

Survey done to be handed out about the B-sustainable goals that we want to try and hit first

What is the focus of Phocus basically?

Management & Other:

Amber Banks moved here from LA, background in special education, undertaking a PHD in education policy and leadership and sustainability and urban agriculture a huge passion.  Part of Alley Cat Acres,

Meeting on Thursday morning with LIOS

Angel Investor meetings and brochures for each one of the programs online as soon as possible

Meetings next week so the sooner the better, Tuesday of next week

Goals and tactics and indicators spreadsheets represent

Smart goals specific measurable actionable realistic time bound

Summer internships need to start recruiting now. 

Lunch meeting since last Tuesday of the month
