March 2 staff meeting summary.

 

Sustainable Seattle Staff Meeting Minutes Summary

Date: March 2, 2010

 

Dream a Sound Future:  planning launch events, teaching Tops elementary classes.  Laptop is at the principal’s office; ask for Patty or Collete if there are any problems. 

 

STARs:Life Cycle Analysis classes.  YWCA will allow us to host brown bags.  EPA is interested, but very busy.  Venues and speakers and things are starting to move.

 

PALS: funding from office of sustainability, waiting for the okay from the mayor’s office

 

K-12 Sustainability Education: Program brochure draft handed out to the room.  Mercer Middle School first site.  Will Allen was there.  Scott McGowan is partnering to come in and liaison with school.  Seattle public schools service learning Loius Brewer.

 

SPARC:  Meeting with Michael Brown from Seattle Foundation this afternoon.  Fiscal sponsorships, Amber is up and running we got three or four calls in inquiry.  Sparc and fiscal sponsorships will be tied together. 

 

SPARC Videography: Hazelwood environmental film group had a meeting.  Project side people concerned with community events.  Interested in doing video work in the future.  In the process of planning another Sustainable Seattle Video.

 

Fiscal Sponsorships: Amber is rocking.

 

Creating & Sustaining Community Events: Alex Kijumalo will come in today about a human rights event.  Looking for an event coordinator that is initially a Volunteer position that will be developed into a green job. 

 

Sustainable Cities: On the back burner, way in the back.  SCAN blog will be part of the main communications blog.


Sustainability Recognition Program & Awards:  Posted position, steering committee is rocking.  B-Labs meeting in process. 

 

B-Sustainable/Regional Use:  Have a meeting with Dow Constantine, Cascade agenda, sightline, taking b sustainable out to the community.  B sustainable to be a resource for the neighborhoods.

 

B-Sustainable/International Tool:

 

Community Development:  Working together to form a system for editing the scope of the project.  Edits will be clarified for language and grammar.  Getting the name out there, attending council meetings ect.  Met with Eddie Hill, he may be coming in through Amber.  Excited about this organization.  Building relationships instead of just name dropping.  Scope will be complete soon. 

 

 

PHOCUS:  Put on hold for now. 

 

Management & Other:  Joe Brewer innovation engine.  Meeting last Tuesday night.  March 13th conference.  Seattleinnovators.org website up.  Outreach through email, twitter ect.  Have a good group of green people, social entrepreneurs, financial sector, and business sector.  Blog post about the innovation engine. 

 

Dates of the open public tree canopy tree commissions

            Community, ecosystem and economics

            March 10 community from 3-4 pm room 2240 in municipal tower

            Ecosystem March 15th week municipal tower

            Economics sub committee to be announced

Old spaghetti factory to plant or maintain trees area from Sustainable Belltown

City needs to increase its tree canopy so they shall pay for the trees

 

Container gardens on centennial apartment building meeting march 3 at ten a.m. 

Delridge days, west Seattle contacts

 

Friends of Belltown gardens have their letter of intent in and on to the next step.  Application to be filled out soon.  Community based building is a focus in the application.

Read the communications protocol before that March 15th meeting.
