Admiral Street-Level Survey

Document Actions
Conducted on April 29th, 2006, the Admiral street-level survey focused primarily on the Admiral commercial district streets: California Ave SW from SW College St to SW Hanford St and Admiral Way SW from 41st Ave SW to 46th Ave SW. The Admiral Neighborhood Association has been working to implement the Admiral Neighborhood Plan. Taking part in a Sustainable Seattle survey provides these community leaders with baseline information about existing assets and areas of improvement.

Please take a five minute survey, linked at the bottom of this page and let us know what you think of the findings from the Admiral street-level survey!

Asset Findings:

Table 1:

Table 1
above lists the most frequently collected positive conditions (assets) organized by feature.  For example, most of the asset or opportunity incidents were found in the both the business category and trees category with 21 incidents collected of each.  The second most collected category were sidewalk conditions with 18 incidents collected.  Community members also discovered that the crosswalks and intersections in the neighborhood were marked clearly and provided safe pedestrian crossings.  Lastly, there were 12 incidents of green and flowering planting strips collected.  Currently, community members have collected 163 assets in Admiral on April 29th, 2006.  For a complete list of all the assets collected in the survey, click here. Deficit Findings:

Table 2:

Table 2
above lists the most frequently collected negative conditions (deficits) organized by feature.  23 conditions were found in the sidewalk category.  A majority of the sidewalk conditions indicated uneven pavement and litter on the sidewalk.  Tree pits and buildings were both collected an equal number of times. The conditions of the tree pits were of concern due to the presence of weeds and invasive plants.  Blank walls, graffiti and abandoned commercial spaces were the building conditions collected. In total, there were 81 deficits or concerns collected by community members in the Admiral neighborhood on April 9th, 2006.  For a complete list of all the deficits collected during this survey, click here. Deficit Conditions Found and Sent to the City of Seattle

There are four deficit conditions which are recognized by Sustainable Seattle as priorities. These include: graffiti, potholes, large dumping and serious incidents of uneven pavement. These conditions are sent to the respective City of Seattle agency immediately after they have been collected. This pie graph summarizes the number of these priorities which were sent to the City as compared to the total number of deficit concerns collected. In the Admiral neighborhood there were a total of 81 deficit conditions collected out of which 8 were sent to the City as priorities. For a list of the conditions sent to the City of Seattle, please click here. (Excel document)
