Findings of the 2006 street-level survey collected over several days in February and March of 2006:

Community members collected both assets (what they liked) and deficits & concerns (what they didn't like and what they thought were problems) along the areas of the main business district of the International District neighborhood.

Asset Findings:

Table 1:

Table 1 above lists the most frequently collected positive conditions (assets) organized by feature.  For example, most of the asset or opportunity incidents were found in the Business category with 24 incidents collected businesses which are local-non-franchise and reflect the community.  The second most collected category were Building conditions with 15 incidents collected, buildings were in good condition.  Community members also discovered that the sidewalks in the neighborhood were clean and provided good and safe walking space.  Currently, community members have collected 102 assets in International District during February and March of 2006.  For a complete list of all the assets collected in the survey, click here. Deficit Findings:

Table 2:

Table 2 above lists the most frequently collected negative conditions (deficits) organized by feature.  47 sidewalk conditions were found.  A majority of the sidewalk conditions indicated uneven pavement and litter on the sidewalk.  There were 16 incidents of the roots heaving and causing uneven pavers making Tree Pits the second most frequently collected feature. Buildings were the third most collected feature, there were 14 incidents of graffiti and abandoned buildings.  In total, there were 144 deficits or concerns collected by community members in the International District neighborhood during February and March of 2006.  For a complete list of all the deficits collected during this survey, click here.
