The maps above show the six surveys planned: A1 & A2 & A3 & A4 represent the positive "asset" condition routes and D1 & D2 & D3 & D4 represent the "deficit" condition routes. Survey volunteers included residents of the Greenwood-Phinney Ridge neighborhood with help from Sustainable Seattle volunteers. Findings
of the May 20th, 2006 street-level survey:
Community members collected assets & opportunities (what they liked) as well as deficits & concerns (what they didn't like and
what they thought were problems) along the areas of the main business district
of the Greenwood-Phinney Ridge neighborhood.

Asset Findings:
Table 1:

Table 1 above lists the most
frequently collected positive conditions (assets) organized by feature.
For example, most of the asset or opportunity incidents were found in the Business
category with 74 incidents collected local, non-franchise business which
both have unique character and reflect the community. The second most
collected category were Building conditions with 41 incidents collected.
The buildings had good architectural detail, were in good condition and served
as landmarks in the community. Community
members also discovered that the sidewalks in the neighborhood provided good
and safe walking spaces. Currently, community members have collected 264
assets in Greenwood-Phinney Ridge on May 20th 2006. For a complete list of all the

Deficit
Findings:
Table 2:

Table 2 above lists the most frequently collected negative conditions (deficits) organized by feature. 46 sidewalk conditions were found. A majority of the sidewalk conditions indicated uneven pavement and litter on the sidewalk. Buildings were the second most frequently collected feature, 34 conditions were found in this category; the concerns were mostly commercial vacancies and graffiti. Planting strips were the third collected feature, 21 incidents of the weeds and invasive plants in the planting strips. In total, there were 199 deficits or concerns collected by community members in the Greenwood-Phinney Ridge neighborhood on May 20th, 2006.
