Findings of the March 31, 2007 street-level survey:
Community members collected assets & opportunities (what they liked and
what they wanted) and deficits & concerns (what they didn't like and what
they thought were problems) along

Asset Findings:
Table 1:

Table 1 above lists the most frequently
collected positive conditions (assets) organized by feature. For example,
most of the asset or opportunity incidents were found in the business category with 16 incidents collected. 15 incidents of sidewalks in clean condition with good and
safe walking space were collected. The third most collected category was
along streetlights with 8 incidents collected. Community members found some of the streetlights
provide sufficient lighting and reflect the community. Additionally, 8
incidents of crosswalk/intersection were collected. Community
members collected 101 assets in Columbia City
on March 31, 2007. Due to the limited number of volunteers, we were
unable to survey the assets in Hillman

Deficit Findings:
Table 2:

Table 2 above lists the most frequently collected negative conditions (deficits) organized by feature. Community members collected the most deficit conditions along the sidewalk with 48 incidents collected, which include litter, ponding, and uneven pavement concerns among others. Building was the second most collected feature with problems such as vacancies in commercial buildings and graffiti. There were a total of 137 deficits or concerns collected by community members in Columbia City & Hillman City neighborhoods on March 31, 2007.
