DESCRIPTION:Join Sustainable Seattle on Earth Day Weekend for Resilient Foundations on Saturday\, April 23rd at 11:30am at Garfield Community Center.  This fun\, informative\, and engaging fundraiser brunch introduces  the new local Soil Health and Justice coalition focused on soil research\, education and community action\, a collaboration between S2 and  Basilica Bio\, a team of scientists and racial justice activists. \n  \nAbout the event: \nThe Soil Health and Justice Coalition is composed of community leaders committed to reversing the impacts of environmental racism\, environmental toxins\, contaminants and pollutants through community-centered education\, research\, and action.  \n  \nYou’ll leave this event with a better understanding on how to prioritize and address soil quality\, food justice\, and public health issues in our region with a solution-oriented and interactive presentation and on site demonstrations with soil health experts \n  \nBrunchy snacks and drinks will be provided. Guests will have the option to stick around after the fundraiser to volunteer with Basilica Bio’s garden project at Garfield Community Center.

This year we will focus on Seattle’s watersheds and how we live with respect and reciprocity as residents of a water-abundant region. \nExpect watershed experts BJ Cummings (Author\, The River That Made Seattle) and Paulina Lopez (Executive Director\, DRCC)\, live music\, water-and-land activities and games\, and wonderful community. DESCRIPTION:Join S2 and Duwamish Valley Sustainability Association for a live podcast taping of “La Hora Sostenible” (The Sustainable Hour) on the topic of Houselessness and the Environment. \nSpecial Guest Speakers\nHannah Wilson (she/they) is the farm manager at Yes Farm\, an urban farm initiative by the Black Farmers Collective. Their work consists mainly of community building\, educational programming\, and growing food for BIPOC while centering Black leadership of Black farmers\, organizers\, healers\, artists\, and educators in the community.
