Interweave.

Interweave is Sustainable Seattle’s community-led sustainability accelerator.
Weaving together collective impact and capacity building frameworks
for lasting, systems-level sustainability action.

Grounded in the Coast Salish creation story that teaches us that together, we can lift the sky.

Seattle is full of opportunities to support active community organizers dedicated to an equitable and sustainable region.

Facilitated by S2, Interweave is a collaborative and supportive program consisting of a peer-to-peer network of visionaries with unique-but-aligned methods for sustainability. Interweave weaves resources, support, collaboration, and capacity towards regional sustainability.

S2 provides specialized support through project advising, administrative services, and fundraising. Community organizers in Interweave can spend more of their time, efforts, and expertise focused on leading sustainability efforts in Seattle communities, and less time and resources in navigating administrative and technical aspects of the work that are often riddled with bias, unnecessary hurdles, and expensive specializations.

Interweave Tracks.

Interweave builds lasting community leadership and power by nurturing natural networks through our Tracks, Communities of Practice (CoP), and enhancing member capacity through cooperative assets and services. We know that the scale of environmental justice and sustainability is far too big for any one of us alone, but, as the Coast Salish creation story teaches us, together we lift the sky.

Interweave brings organizers together towards the greater health and well-being of our region. To support this work, we have co-designed Tracks in which multiple organizations and activists coordinate around a shared objective leading towards greater community health and well-being.

Of  nearly two dozen identified track options, the following are examples of current community priorities:

Soil & Water Health and Justice

Assembled to reinforce the efforts of Seattle-based Black researchers, educators, and urban land stewards pushing to address long-standing failures of policy and to establish a lasting infrastructure for remediation and community health.

This Track builds upon foundational efforts with Dr. Melanie Malone and partners closely with Basilica Bio and a network of area BIPOC-led urban farms and land stewards.

Just Circular Communities

Intertwines Just Transition principles with Circular Economy design approaches in community envisioned, owned, and managed initiatives to support anti-displacement, green job pathways and infrastructure, and systems-level change rooted in hyper-local settings.

This project coalesces builds upon foundational efforts with landscape architect Catherine de Almeida, Duwamish Valley Sustainability Association, Traversal Design, Circular PNW, Blue Daisi Consulting, and intersects with other groups working to implement the Just Transition framework.

Healing with the Environment

Processing, interpersonal support, and community healing methods to treat the symptoms of trauma response and support the long-term wellbeing and sustainability of organizers and new generations of leaders.

This project emerged from community needs articulated by Black and Indigenous communities and is rooted in trainings facilitated by herbalist Shelagh Brown and community health practitioner Jasleena Grewal.

Community Resilience Practitioners

A subset of individuals within Interweave working between entities as consultants, freelancers or contractors, generally with a specific area of expertise. They embody systems-work as they weave throughout government, large and small businesses, and community organizing spaces. This track seeks to make this nature of work more supported and viable for long-term collaboration across sectors and areas of expertise towards a shared vision for a sustainable region.

Community Reclamation Commons

A portable demonstration center, education facility, and organizing hub designed to enhance community-owned sustainable land use, greenscaping, cultural connection, and hyper-local initiatives through multi-year residencies. (In pre-development)
